| You are not logged in Fun with a Purpose: Track Day at Goodwood25th September 2003Thursday 25th September – about two weeks after the Revival Meeting at Goodwood – is the next planned event there. This will not be a competitive event, but an opportunity to have safe fun within your own limits – and raise money for a good cause, treatment of prostate cancer. The format will be the same as recent fund-raising track days – 98dBs noise limit which permits 10 cars on track, with 25 cars in the morning and 25 others in the afternoon; this arrangement minimises queuing. Cars will be on track for ten-minute sessions followed by ten or twenty minutes in the pit lane; drivers can anticipate about six sessions, approximately 30 laps.
The day has not yet been widely publicised but is already half full and includes several newcomers. If you have not taken part in one of these days, make the decision now and give your car some fun; it does not have to be a sporting vehicle. Recycled Kamikazes and clever modern whizzers are discouraged – cars that are not often seen on motor circuits will be most welcome. Cars already entered range from Peugeot and Rover to Aston Martin and Jaguar, with a supercharged MG and an Alpine Renault 110 as used by French police in the 1970s adding variety. If you are a newcomer the afternoon is recommended and tuition will be provided. Come in the morning for a passenger ride - then drive the circuit after lunch. The maximum is 50, so reserve your place now. The cost per car remains at £150 and two drivers can share an entry. On the other hand you may wish to just drive two parade laps at moderate speed (no helmets, no overtaking). These take place at 0900 and 1330 behind the warmup lap for the track day cars.
Previous events have included a taxi, a lorry, a minibus and anything from Bentley TurboR to Trabant. For a small fee the photographer will provide a picture to impress your friends. The cost is £20 per vehicle, passengers are free. Passenger rides in the track day cars will also be available in return for a paper money donation. The day will be raising funds for prostate cancer treatment in Sussex, specifically for the hospitals in Chichester and Eastbourne. The hire of the circuit is not cheap but the last event on Saturday 29th March raised over £4,000 for the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society; it is hoped to raise a similar sum. Accounts are sent to all drivers. For more details visit www.gwtr.co.uk under Track Days.
