8 DVD Box Set – Classic Cars

This box set features full length "Ultimate History" DVDs of 8 famous classic car marques and models. The box set contains the following DVDs:

Over the coming months these titles will be individually reviewed to give the full idea of what you can expect from the box set. However, it must be pointed out that the DVDs are only available as part of the box set and cannot be purchased individually.

At first glance, the price of £134.99 will probably seem expensive and to be fair, it quite possibly may be for many people. However, you need to look at in the context of exactly what you get for your money. You get 8 specialist DVDs varying in duration from 67 to 92 minutes making in total over 10 hours viewing pleasure. This means that each DVD will give you on average 80 minutes entertainment for less than £17. Put like this it doesn’t suddenly sound so expensive.

"Ah," you may be thinking, "but I’m only interested in a couple of the titles".

I must admit that whilst I didn’t quite think this, I certainly had preconceived ideas about which I was really looking forward to and which I wasn’t really expecting to enjoy quite so much. Having now watched them all, the reality is that to my own surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them for various reasons.

As you will find from the individual reviews, the DVDs do not follow a rigid format. Instead each takes an approach appropriate to the subject make. I can’t explain this any more here without mentioning specifics about the individual DVDs (which you will be able to read elsewhere later), I can say however that they bring the history right up to date, a point particularly of interest to me in the case of the Mini.

So, do I think the set is worth the money? On balance I would have to say yes. It is a lot of money, which will put a lot of people off, but as I said I personally enjoyed the full 10 hours. I think offering the DVDs individually would probably appeal to a lot of people and on a personal note I would have liked to have seen the Morris Minor represented, though I accept that I’m probably in the minority on this last point.
