More 'Fun with a Purpose'
the next fund-raising track day for mainly older cars

I have been asked by the Goodwood Marshals’ Club to run a track day in order to raise funds for a new rescue unit.

You need to understand that although this club is centred at Goodwood it is not a part of the Goodwood estate and circuit. The members (I am one) are all unpaid volunteers who support motor sport events in their spare time, mainly throughout southeast UK. The club has a rescue vehicle which is hired out to organisers of rallies races and sprints, generating income for the club. The vehicle needs replacing – hence the club’s trackday. You will not be subsidising Lord March, who pays the marshals who work at the circuit for track days and corporate events. I hope that is clear. See www.goodwoodmarshalsclub.co.uk for more info and pics.

Motor sport throughout the country depends on clubs which provide volunteer marshals, so this is indeed a good cause.

This will be a 98dBs track day with 10 cars on track for ten minute sessions. 25 cars in the morning, 25 others in the afternoon – drivers can expect about one hour of circuit time in the half day. The circuit will be open 0900-1200 and 1300-1600, which is winter routine.

The cost will be £180 for the whole day, or £100 for either morning or afternoon.

Parade laps (two laps at moderate speed, no overtaking) will also be available at £20 if you have friends who would like to experience the circuit; EDP will provide a photograph of them and their car on the circuit for a modest fee. See www.edpphoto.com and Photo Galleries for pictures from previous days.

I am not planning to offer passenger rides to the general public. However, there will be rides available in a Ferrari in return for donations.

Interestingly, the management has offered the circuit free of charge (I have not been thus privileged for any of my charity days) so we hope to raise £5,000.

Please send your cheque for either £100 or £180 payable to C.Darwin Charity Account (dated 1st November if you wish) to me at Summers Place Cottage, Billingshurst RH14 9AB. I will send a receipt.

The Goodwood Road Racing Club will be informing its membership (about 3000, much bigger than my database) as well, so if you are interested please send your cheque soon. This event may be oversubscribed before long.

This will not be a day for mainly older cars, so bring what you wish - bearing in mind the season. I like to think that we shall see lots of familiar faces.

Any queries, please contact me.

Update:
Castle Combe on 12 Oct was very wet but raised £1550 for the Macmillan hospice in Midhurst.
