Daimler Dart restoration

Well this month I have actually got around to doing something. Not exactly progress as such, but then it is a move in the right direction.

The Dart has moved to a friends workshop where I'll have plenty of space to work around the car. A much better arrangement than having it in a normal sized garage as it was until now.

The first job was to find out how much the transportation would set me back. I found a man advertising on eBay who is fairly local so got a quote from him for doing the job. The price seemed fair enough given the time and distance involved so I made my mind up to use him.....that is until I mentioned to a friend what I was planning to do.

Just as well I did as he knew a guy who would do the job for me with his transporter for a lot less of the hard earned folding stuff.

This morning Kev Knight of Knights Vehicle Services (tel 01908-236434 or mobile 07711-013925, email: kevin.kvs@btconnect.com) arrived with his rather smart transporter that was purpose built to transport low vehicles such as the Dart.

In all, a superb service at a very competitive price. I would happily recommend this chap, very professional and a really nice guy to deal with.

Anyway, I had already re-fitted the bonnet and boot lids that were previously taken off ready for painting.

The Dart has a really nice hard top, which will probably never get used as that wasn't why I bought the car. I'll also have loads of storage space for my vast collection of removed parts and numerous spares that I have accumulated. I wanted to fit the hard top and take it with the car, simply because it's so large it would never fit in my every day car.

One slight problem had arisen. I put the hard top securing fixings in a old plastic ice cream tub, and then put that in a very safe place so that they wouldn't get lost. Anyway, I can't for the life of me remember where I put them.

I didn't really want to rely on the three front clips that secure the front of the hard top to the windscreen surround, but then I also did not have to strap or tie it down.

After spending a whole four hours searching both garages, so far I have drawn a blank.

As it turned out, the front screen clips worked well for the purpose of transporting the car. There was no way the hard top would move.

Well, that's it for now folks. I somehow feel that things will soon be back on track and hopefully progress will soon be made.
