You did what this weekend? It was 7.00 and I was stood outside holding the gate open to my Dads Garage. He was bringing his Land Rover out ready for a very long journey. By half eight we had hit trouble, between junction 34 & 35, the motorway was closed. But then we passed another sign: Motorway closed 10th August 20.00-8.00; great it would be back open. No such luck, a 40 minute diversion later and we rejoined the motorway. It was then pretty much plain sailing until we got to the Forth Road Bridge where traffic once again became as slow as traffic can get, stopped, passing numerous signs saying slow! Once we got to the bridge we went through the toll gate and if any of you have ever used the Forth Road Bridge but after you go through one of the 6 toll gates, the bridge is only 2 lanes wide, so you end up nearly crashing into the 4 other people that left the gate at the same time and are aiming for the same lane! After that we followed the directions that we had been given to the letter, unfortunately they were for the wrong junction, he had told us junction 4, the directions were for junction 3. We tried ringing the person who we were picking them up from, but she wasn’t quite sure where she lived either. Eventually we found them with the help of a passing walker, who turned out to be from Bolton! We got there and began to have a look round the cars that we had gone to see, 1 A30 and 1 A35, or at least what was left of them. They were awful. And as you can see by the pictures they make them look a lot better than they were. So, after all that way we were to turn round and go back with nothing, it was a frightening thought, but how else were we to get back? We stopped off, had a very late lunch and then made our way back. We hit an accident on the way back, another good 30 minutes added on to the journey. At about 10 o’clock I was stood where I had been 15 hours before with nothing to show for it except 499.3 miles on the trip meter. So if anyone offers you an A30 and an A35 in Scotland, you can use your imagination and tell them what to do!
