TVR 3000S restoration

February 2002

I have now stripped down the front suspension. I decided to do one side at a time so I had the other side for reference. Everything has turned out to be in very good condition apart from the flexible brake hoses. I have decided to replace these with the steel braded variety as they give better pedal feel and don't perish like the rubber ones. The only problem I encountered was trying to remove the brake calliper and in the end I resorted to fitting the suspension back on to the chassis and then I undid them quite easily. I was expecting the trunion bolts to be difficult to remove but luckily they had been well greased so they came off with no problem. All the front suspension components have now been rubbed down and painted and are now re-fitted to the chassis.

I have also refitted the steering rack after a rub down and repaint. This is fairly recent so I just gave it a quick check by pulling back the rubber boots and making sure it was well greased. One thing worth noting is to fit it to the steering column U/J before bolting it down.

The next thing I tackled was the anti-roll bar. The mounting rubbers were completely shot together with drop link bushes. I have purchased some new mounting rubbers and some rose jointed drop links so next weekends job will be to refit this.

March 2002

I have now fitted the anti-roll bar and the front of the chassis is finished for the time being. I have refitted the front wheels to enable the chassis to be moved more easily and turned it round in the garage so I can make a start on the rear.

The rear Diff. and the Diff. hanger has been cleaned ready for repainting. I shall also be draining the oil and refilling it.

I have also cleaned one side of the rear suspension and that too is ready for painting as it looks in very good condition with no signs of wear. The U/J's show signs of plenty of grease and no wear so that's encouraging. I have stripped the rear brake cylinder and found that it needs a new rubber seal, as there were score marks on it, although there were no signs of it leaking. I have now painted the diff. and nearside rear suspension. I have also refitted it to the chassis so next weekend I will start on the other side.

The offside rear suspension is now fitted to the chassis after cleaning and painting.

April 2002

I apologise for the poor quality photo's but they
were taken using a very cheap digital camera.

The chassis is now rolling.

I have now painted and refitted the handbrake and cables which was pretty straight forward. Next came the rear brake pipes and fuel lines and after I had referred back to some earlier photo's to see where they went back on. The only problem I did find was that the cable ties I had to fix them on weren't big enough but that was a minor problem and the rubber fuel pipes at the ends of the fuel line were cracked and perished.

I have rubbed down and painted the exhaust manifolds so they are ready to go on. The next major thing is to clean up the engine and gearbox and get them back on to the chassis. This will be done in May as I have a misfire on my Vixen to sort out first.
