| You are not logged in Editor's welcome - August 2005Welcome to the August 2005 edition of Classic Car Times. This month I must admit to being disappointed with the site for the first time since I started it, because as you’ll see it’s quite light on content. Each month I ask for contributions but with the exception of a handful of regular contributors over the past couple of years, people simply don’t seem to be coming forward. I personally have limited time (and imagination) for writing the articles and the result is this month’s edition. So I’ll once again ask that if anyone out there who feels they could contribute then I implore them to come forward so that I can keep the site running. Other than that, there has been another person contacting people selling cars on the site suggesting payment and shipping arrangements that at best look suspicious and are most likely fraudulent. I’ve blocked this person’s access to the site and informed each of the people that they contacted of my suspicions so hopefully no harm has been done. This seems to be an all too common problem (I’ve read recently in Practical Classics about similar attacks) so I urge you to be extremely cautious when selling on the Internet. It’s an old adage, but if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. On a personal note, I continue to search for a suitable fun car for a 2+2 family. The general consensus from a number of people that I’ve spoken with is that an E-type 2+2 will at best only be big enough for my kids (9 and 6) for a short while, and may be too big already. I’ve had a couple of failed attempts to try one out for size, one particular attempt due to a dealer failing to remove an advert from their website despite having sold the car the previous week. I’m sure it makes their business look good having a healthy stock list but left a bad taste in my mouth having driven an hour to see it. (Before you all point out I should have contacted them first, there simply wasn’t time, as I had to be there for their opening time so that I could get away promptly.) One other dealer I did contact beforehand neglected to mention that the car was up on the ramp in the garage despite me saying exactly when I intended to come and view it. As ever, I hope you enjoy what there is of the site this month.
