Circuit des Ramparts report

19th-21st September 2003

by Keith Davis

I heard about the Circuit des Ramparts some years ago when a friend told me about some loonies that were racing cars around the ramparts of a town called Angoulem in the Charente region of France.

I vowed then to see if it was true.

Well it is and what an excellent event it turned out to be.

What it consists of is a full weekend of motoring events from concord de elegance, a classic car rally, to a mad motor race programme around the walls of a medieval town all for £7. Dogs and kids under 12 free.

Add to this the architecture, museums a real good run ashore town with plenty of Bars restaurants and clubs.

Free parking (just leave it there mate).

The Irish bar in the main square open till 2am good crack with live band Guinness on tap well worth a visit.

What! I really did think I had died and gone to Heaven. (But we all know they speak English there so I hadn’t.)

Oh did I mention that the town is full of tasty motors kit/replica, classic, historic you name it.

Those French do really know how to put on an event, don’t over charge the punter, get the money from the local businesses in this case from the supermarket chain Geant.

Well on my way home now takes about 8 hrs in a good car from Le Havre/Cherbourg or Caen.

Please have a look at the pics and let me know what you think.
